Afghanistan, NATO recognition as Italian military

General John F. Campbell, commander of the NATO forces in Afghanistan, sent a letter of satisfaction to Major Corporal Andrea Agnelli, a native of Arezzo and effective in the Alpine Paratroopers Regiment of Montorio Veronese (VR), for the his intervention in a serious accident in which a military helicopter crashed inside the headquarters of the NATO mission, causing the death of 5 and injuring 5 other coalition soldiers.

In the accident, a helicopter took place on the afternoon of 11 October 2015 Puma of the British army in the landing phase fell between the containers used as offices of the camp; the major corporal Andrea Agnelli, qualified Military rescuer, rushed immediately to the place and together with other soldiers present, took the personnel out of the wreckage of the helicopter, despite the ground and the air being saturated with fuel.

The rescue continued at the camp infirmary, where the major corporal helped stabilize the injured. In the evening, the Italian soldier accused disturbances caused by the inhalation of the helicopter's fuel, to the point of having to be visited by the health personnel himself.

General John F. Campbell, in thanking the major corporal Andrea Agnelli, expressed his appreciation for his dedication and spirit of service which gave prestige to him and his nation.
