Afghanistan: the first female police officer is promoted

Finished today, the course of Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) with which four Afghan policemen from the provincial command of Herat were qualified for scientific investigation procedures. Among these also a woman, the first "RIS" agent. This presence, included in the gender projects supported by the Italian contingent, contributes to increasing the female staff capable of operating in highly specialized positions in Afghan institutions.

The CSI course took place at the Italian base of Camp Arena, home of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W) and was developed as part of the training program conducted by the Carabinieri del Police Advising Team (PAT). Theoretical lessons were alternated with practical activities held by two Afghan instructors assisted by the Italian military and mainly concerned the intervention procedures at the crime scene and the methods of collecting evidence. The aim of the course, agreed with the leaders of the provincial police command, in addition to training new investigators was also to fill some cognitive gaps of the Afghan instructors by giving them the opportunity to deepen the teaching procedures, based on the principle " train the trainers-train the instructors ".

The commander of the 606 ° Afghan police corps, present at the ceremony of delivery of the certificates, said words of thanks for the commitment of the Italian contingent in favor of its agents, pointing out that the level of professionalism expressed by the police of the province of Herat is constantly growing. He also asked to further intensify the training activities related to the specific branch in such a way as to reach, in a short time, sufficient levels of staff to cope with the needs of the territory.
