Afghanistan: first flight in the operating theater of Shadow 200

(Herat, Afghanistan) Today the Italian contingent in Herat has successfully tested the system Tactical Unmanned Aerial System (TUAS) "Shadow 200".

It is a small unmanned aircraft, recently acquired by the Italian Army, equipped with sensors for video surveillance and the collection of information in areas of interest, day and night, as well as for the designation of fixed and mobile targets. .

The new structure, operated by the staff of the 1 Army Aviation Regiment (AVES) "Antares", expands the capacitive horizons of the units of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), which operate in the NATO “Resolute Support” (RS) mission, especially in the surveillance activities at the tactical level of the area of ​​operations, increasing the synergy between the AVES assets and the ground units.

General Giampaolo Mirra, commander of the TAAC-W currently based on the “Pinerolo” brigade base, congratulated the pilots and AVES specialists who deployed the aircraft in a very short time from its arrival in the operating theater, making it possible for him to use.
