Afghanistan: sport for women's rights and against violence

Still an initiative to raise awareness of the rights of Afghan women, their freedom of expression, including in particular the possibility of being able to practice healthy sport and socialize: this is the purpose with which the Train Advise Assit Command West (TAAC W) organized a women's football match, which ended with the victory of the Bastan Football Club, which imposed itself on penalties on the football representation of women of the Italian military contingent.

The event, entitled "A Match for Women's Rights ... not just on March the 8th", was an opportunity to remember the achievements of women in the political, economic and social, but also that discrimination and violence against them are still a serious problem. problem. On the other hand, the event highlighted how sport can be one of the vehicles through which to overcome those cultural barriers that are at the root of violence against women.

The match, which took place at Camp Arena, home of TAAC W, assisted local civilian and military authorities, including many women belonging to the Afghan Army and the Afghan Forces.

The Bastan Football Club is a football team composed of young Afghan people, and militates in local championships.
