Afghanistan: Italy trains new craftsmen in Herat

11/07/15

The Alpina Brigade JULIA and the Confartigianato of Udine presented yesterday a cooperation project that provides for the development of some basic training courses for artisans in favor of Afghan workers.

An initiative that was illustrated during a press conference, organized by the same Confartigianato in Udine, which saw Brigadier Michele Risi, commander of the TAACW-Train Advise Assist Command West, connected in video conference with dr. Tilatti, president of the Friuli Association.

The courses will take place at the Camparea Italian base to redevelop and facilitate the reintegration into the local socio-economic fabric of Afghan workers. The teaching and practical activities will involve, in the role of teachers, some craftsmen belonging to the Confartigianato of Udine who, together with the Julia Brigades, will conduct carpentry and plumbing courses for male and aesthetic staff and hairdresser for the female staff.

This project supported by the governor of Herat, dr. Rahimi, is part of a wider project aimed at retraining and revitalizing the economy of the Province starting from the craft enterprises. In this context, in recent months in the city of Herat some events were held such as the Local Products Fair and the Labor Fair where hundreds of entrepreneurs had the opportunity to get in touch with the local workers to discuss the opening of new activities.

Since January 2015, NATO has changed the mission to Afghanistan by transforming it from a mission in which coalition forces were actively involved in security to an RS-Resolute Support mission, in which the Afghan forces are solely responsible for the security of their country while those of the coalition, including the Italian contingent, maintain the task of assisting the Afghan Army and Police.
