Afghanistan: meeting between the heads of the Resolute Support mission and the Afghan authorities

(To Resolute Support)
19/06/17

It took place a few days ago at Camp Arena, headquarters of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC W), the Italian-led multinational and joint-force NATO Command operating in the Western region of Afghanistan as part of the Resolute Support (RS) Mission. a meeting (shura) between the highest officials of the central Afghan government, the correspondents of the province of Herat and the leaders of the RS mission.

During the meeting, issues related to security and leadership were discussed with the aim of further implementing collaborations between Afghan central and local authorities and the NATO mission.

The shura, led by General Nicholson, commander of Resolute Support, saw the participation of the Ministers of Defense and of the Interior of the Afghan government, the Italian ambassador in Kabul Roberto Cantone, as well as numerous civil and military posts from the province of Herat .

For the newly installed TAAC-W led by the "Taurinense" alpine brigade, represented at the shura table by Brigadier General Massimo Biagini, this was the very first engagement in Afghanistan, a prelude to training (Train) and consulting (Advise and Assist), which will be carried out by the Army advisor teams in favor of the Afghan National Army (ANA) and by the Carabinieri advisor teams in relation to the police forces.

The Italian mission in Afghanistan, in compliance with the provisions of Resolute Support, has the dual objective of making the local Security Forces autonomous in the management of the professional development of their personnel and to train new instructors ("train the trainers"), as well as train "specialists" in the various sectors of employment.
