On this morning, Division General Mario Ruggiero, deputy chief of staff of support, took over the title of Chief of Staff of Support at the command of the NATO "Resolute Support" (RS) mission in Kabul. Italian Senior National Representative (IT-SNR).
The gen. d. Mario Ruggiero took over the position at gen. ca Paolo Ruggiero, deputy commander for transition, who concluded his mandate yesterday, which started on 19 last February.
The qualification of IT-SNR involves the assumption of delicate and diversified responsibilities. In particular, the IT SNR, representing the only national reference for the mission commander, carries out monitoring activities on the use of the national assets deployed in operation.
The Italian military personnel employed in Kabul mainly hold staff positions at the RS command, the NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan (NSOCC-A) and theItalian National Support Element (IT-NSE), which guarantees the functionality of the mission command and support for Italian advisors who provide assistance to Afghan personnel working in ministries, headquarters and training schools in the capital.
The RS mission, which since 1 January 2015 has replaced the ISAF mission (International Security Assistance Force), is focused on training, consulting and assistance in favor of the Afghan Army and security forces and is aimed at progressive improving their level of operation and autonomy.
