Afghanistan: the Italian contingent forms specialists in communication

It has ended yesterday at Camp Arena, home of the Italian contingent, a journalism course in favor of military and police officers employed in public information Afghan National Defense Security Forces (ANDSF), the first dedicated to the management of radio broadcasts.

With a brief ceremony and with the handing over of certificates of participation by General Antonio Bettelli, deputy chief of staff for the mission supports Resolute Support - highest Italian military authority in Afghanistan - and of the commander of the Train, Advise and Assist Command West General Massimo Biagini has formally given way to a new capacity in the field of public information of the ANDSF.

The eleven officers of theAfghan National Army and by 'Afghan National Police have completed an intense course aimed at exploring the issues of journalism and information in a complex and varied environment such as that of western Afghanistan, where traditional communication channels such as the press, radio and television coexist alongside advanced channels such as the Internet and social media.

General Bettelli during the delivery of the end of course diplomas praised the students encouraging them to continue their professional career for an increasingly prosperous and secure Afghanistan, further extending their appreciation to the staff of the Italian contingent of TAAC W who operated as a advisor for the pursuit of the important goal.

The need to investigate these issues has emerged following the growing need to effectively counter the propaganda of terrorist formations hostile to the population and to Afghan institutions. Qualified staff of the headquarters of Resolute Support, together with the staff of the Italian contingent, he explained during the lessons, the right approach to the methodology of information, to the correct use of communication channels depending on the reference audience with particular attention to radio communications.

"In a society like the present one, the contrast to the enemy forces of Afghanistan applies not only through the control of the physical territory of one's country, but also and above all by informing the population in an adequate, effective and correct manner about those who are the continuous progress achieved by the Security Forces and the Institutions " - General Biagini declared at the end of the ceremony - "This course has given you the tools to operate even more effectively for the good of your country, reaching the largest number of citizens with radio, television and the web".

For Train Advise and Assist Command West it was a further initiative aimed at supporting the training and professionalization process of local security forces not only in military technical-practical aspects but - as established by the RS mission and the government of Kabul - promoting the professional and specialized growth of new cadres of the ANDSF. The course that has just ended completes a training course initiated by the Alpine brigade Taurinense to create new capacities within ANDSF capable of countering the propaganda of terrorist cells and at the same time reaching ever larger sections of the population during information campaigns to combat improvised devices and health prevention campaigns.
