Afghanistan: medical evacuation exercise

In recent days, some Italian departments of the national contingent operating in Afghanistan have conducted a complex exercise of Aeromedical Evacuation - MEDEVAC to test the procedures, coordination and reaction times of all the various assets that must intervene in the event of emergency medical transport carried out with the use of helicopters. A very important capacity for intervention in the delicate Afghan theater, which must always be kept at the highest levels of efficiency and readiness.

The activity coordinated by the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC W), Italian-led command included in the mission Resolute Support in Afghanistan, saw the participation of many components: elements of the special forces, of the 4 ° alpine paratroopers regiment, NH 90 helicopters of the task group Fenice, assets of the 66 ° infantry aircraft regiment Trieste, team Medevac, two surgical teams of the Role 2 hospital, areal security elements of the task force Sand of the 7 ° bersaglieri regiment and of the Base Operation Center (BOC) of the Italian Air Force for the monitoring and regulation of civil air traffic within Herat Airport.

The commander of TAAC W, General Gianpaolo Mirra, closely followed the development of all the activities, expressing satisfaction with the good progress of the training which was conducted with a high level of realism and with reaction times of the various teams, although extremely restricted, all fully respected.
