Afghanistan: first aid training for 20 police officers

It was concluded after about 10 days of theoretical and practical activities the first aid course dedicated to officers of the Penitentiary Police of Herat, which can now count on 20 policemen enabled to the procedures of first aid with the possibility to use in case of emergency the defibrillators .

The course was carried out as part of the training program conducted by the carabinieri from Police Advising Team (PAT) and by the medical and paramedical staff of the Army and Air Force of the field hospital of the Italian base, and took place at Camp Arena, the Italian base Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W) currently on an alpine brigade basis Taurinense.

The program included theoretical concepts as well as practical intervention techniques and procedures in the event of severe life threatening, severe heart-respiratory attacks and associated use of the defibrillator (BLS-D).

The objective of the course, strongly requested by the director, was to enable a first group of agents who could in the future be instructors to the colleagues of the Penitentiary Institute.

Activities in favor of Afghan women, carried out in the framework of projects gender, are developed in all training and consultancy plans, which are currently carried out by the advisors of the TAAC West for the Afghan security forces in order to make them increasingly independent in managing the professional development of their personnel. Among the objectives, for example, to train new instructors and train specialists in the field of intelligence, in the fight against improvised devices, in the use of mortars and artillery, in airspace control.

All efforts are focused on the organizational development and functionality of local security forces to achieve an adequate level of sustainability.
