The Italian Civil and Military Cooperation (CIMIC) of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), based on the Alpine brigade Taurinense, organized and led the donation of generic drugs to the regional hospital in Herat, one of the few health facilities that support the Afghan population in the west.
The drugs, provided by the non-profit organization Perigee - Italian non-governmental organization (NGO) that has been collaborating with the CIMIC component for years - and handed over to the deputy director of the Herat regional hospital, dr. Ibrahim Basim at Camp Arena seat of TAAC-W, were the last tranche of four previous donations occurred in the last quarter, through which they have been distributed over a total of 220 thousand packs of generic drugs to medical principals of Herat.
During the delivery, dr. Ibrahim Basim thanked Italy for having supported his facility for over a decade with important projects that have made it possible to treat an average of 1500 patients a day to date. The deputy director also recalled the medical support offered by the Italian contingent for the stabilization of the most seriously injured on the night of the bloody attack on the Jawadia mosque in Dehr Hebad in Herat last August. In this circumstance, the medical staff of the Italian field hospital, immediately alerted, remained throughout the night and the following days ready to intervene at the request of the Afghan authorities if they were not able to manage the health emergency.
The fruitful and constant relationships with the Department of Health of Herat and with the health organization of the Afghan army, established over the years of collaboration by the Italian contingent, continue not only with collaborations aimed at emergency health support but above all with continuous discussions between Italian and local medical staff; Furthermore, numerous training courses are planned for the personnel of the military hospital of the 207th Army Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) stationed at camp Zafar conducted in the context of training (Train) and consultancy (Advise and Assist ), a task currently carried out by the advisors of Taurinense in favor of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).
The support to the population, thanks to the contribution of operators in the civil-military co-operation, unity of 'Army - multinational and inter-valence - specializing in civil-military cooperation, is an activity that joins the main training and support of the Forces Afghan security, primary focus of the mission of Resolute Support.
