Afghanistan: full-scale training for Afghan forces

(To TAAC WEST HQ)
14/07/17

Two training courses conducted by the men of the last few days have been concluded Military Advisors Team  (MAT) and Police Advisor Team (PAT), in favor of approximately 30 military personnel of the Afghan army and of 20 police officers of Herat.

These are two courses supervised by the TAAC W advisors (Train, Advice, Assist Command West): one on techniques Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED), the other of "Personal Security". Both courses were conducted for the first time in full by Afghan instructors previously trained by Italian instructors. According to this concept, defined as "train the trainers", Afghan forces become more and more autonomous in basic and specialized training for their military and cadres.

The C-IED course, supervised by military personnel of the Army, responds to a need for self-protection and security that is still very current in Afghanistan, while the "Personal Security" course, carried out in collaboration with the Carabinieri Police Advisor Team (PAT), allowed the policemen ofAfghan National Police to perfect self-defense and arrest techniques.

Train-the-trainer training activities will also enable police officers to qualify as instructors and teachers, in order to train and certify, in full autonomy, new instructors at local training institutes.

Great satisfaction was expressed by the commanders of the exercised units, who are continuing on their own path of autonomy and self-sufficiency, both in basic and specialized training activities. "Being autonomous even in the training phase allows us to more effectively direct our efforts in training personnel towards the different needs we face", Declared a senior officer of the 207 Command Corps of the Afghan National Army"and of this we are extremely grateful to the Italian soldiers of Resolute Support for the fundamental action in forming our instructors".
