An artillery shooting training exercise, which took place on January 6 at Herat's New Dune polygon, represented the final phase of the 20 qualification course for new artillerymen from the Afghan National Army, the National Army of 'Afghanistan.

The qualification course lasted about 20 days and was carried out by Afghan teachers from the Kabul Artillery School, based on a shared program with Italian instructors in compliance with the principle Train the Trainers that is, to train and provide assistance to local trainers so that they can autonomously give lessons in the future with maximum efficiency.

At the exercise, next to the commander of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W) General Gianluca Carai, the commander of the 207th Afghan Army Corps was also present, in addition to the instructors from Kabul and numerous staff members involved in the training, who showed great appreciation for the execution of the exercises and the accuracy of the hits scored. Among the exercises conducted, there were also those that included point targets located at a distance of about 8.000 meters from the deployment area.

The artillery shooting training allows to maintain the combat capabilities of the Afghan security forces, in particular the Afghan Nation Army, which continues to oppose the insurgent offensives in the rural areas of the western region.
