(To Greater Defense)
12/10/17

It took place at Camp Arena, the headquarters of the command of Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), the 1 Symposium on the topic of "Contrast to corruption in the Public Administration" held in favor of the Afghan security forces of Herat to investigate and discuss topics related to the current regulatory framework aimed at achieving the possible and necessary measures to hinder the phenomenon of corruption.

The Symposium, the only one of its kind in Afghanistan, was able to benefit from the participation of leading figures from the Italian legal, legal and academic world thanks to a live video link with the Court of Cagliari and with the Post-Conflict Operation Center of Turin who interacted on the issue with the Attorney General of Herat in front of a large audience of Afghan civil and military authorities including the governor and mayor of Herat.

The intervention of General Massimo Biagini, commander of the TAAC WEST, opened the work of the Symposium by addressing the issue of corruption from the point of view of motivation and honesty, fundamental aspects for carrying out its own service within public institutions.

Following the lawyer Giuseppe Ledda, director of the Cagliari Criminal Chamber school, Dr. Maria Alessandra Pelagatti, head of the Cagliari prosecutor's office, dr. Paolo De Angelis, magistrate of the prosecutor's office of the Sardinian capital together with the lawyer. Rita Debola the president of the order of lawyers of the city and the lawyer. Gian Mario Demuro, professor of constitutional law, debated with the Attorney General of Herat, Dr. Abdul Haq Amahdi, providing high-level legal experience and legal knowledge to the public. The synergy created between professionals and professors from different countries and experiences has been able to offer common ideas to find measures to combat the phenomenon of corruption.

The Symposium took stock of doctrinal aspects of criminal law, but above all of concepts and practical applications, focusing the attention of the speakers on very current issues in the difficult Afghan context, matters that the mission Resolute Support (RS) deals in close coordination with the local authorities to guarantee the country growth and development in total legality.

For Train Advise and Assist Command West this is a further initiative aimed at supporting the process of training and professionalizing the local security forces not only in technical-practical military aspects but - as established by the RS mission and by the Kabul government - favoring the ethical and moral growth of the new ANDSF frameworks.
