Recovery of two Spanish colubrine

On Monday, in the water in front of the military port of MARISICILIA in Terravecchia, they were recovered by the Core SDAI (Antimezzi Insidiosi Defense Service) of Augusta, with the coordination and high vigilance of the Maritime Command Sicily, two colubrine archaic working in forged iron probably used on private boats dating back to the Frederick period.

The colubrine are kept, with the authorization of the Superintendence for the Environmental Cultural Heritage of the Sea of ​​the Sicily Region, at the Navy for reasons of public safety and safeguard.

The two iron drums, discovered in the 2006 by two sporting divers in the waters in front of the seafaring hamlet of Brucoli (Augusta), were brought to the attention of the regional authority, which is coordinating jointly with MARISICILIA the recovery and restoration activity and subsequent conservation.

The laborious treatment, aimed at restoring the ancient and original splendor to the cannoncini, is taken care of by the technical staff and of the Maritime Command of Sicily who has already made available the equipment in possession, in line with what is required by the current regulations on protection and recovery of historical finds and thanks to the direct advice of the Superintendency of the Sea.
