The divers of the Diving and Inshore Command (COMSUBIN) during the month of August, in many seaside resorts completed operations to secure unexploded ordnance.

Among the many interventions to restore the bathing ability of our coasts, the one in the waters in front of Gioiosa Marea and Ganzirri, two of the most important tourist destinations in the province of Messina, is certainly worth mentioning.

After the discovery in the sea, by some swimmers, of objects that looked like explosive devices, at the request of the Government of Messina, the men of the Diving Operations Group in service at the SDAI Unit (Defending Defense Insidious Catches) of Augusta.

The underwater operations took place directly from the shoreline, normally crowded with tourists, and allowed the removal and destruction of twenty-nine medium-caliber bullets and a hand grenade, all dating back to the Second World War, which were in shallow water.

Thanks to the civic sense of the people and the intervention of the Navy divers, it was thus possible to eliminate a considerable number of explosive devices, which could have represented a risk for the safety of the population and tourists.

The reclamation of the devices found at sea is one of the main tasks of the divers who, since the beginning of the year, have carried out 113 interventions, neutralizing more than 3000 devices.

Always remember: think about your own safety and that of those around you. If you find metal objects of suspicious shape in the sea, do not touch them and immediately report their presence to the local authorities.
