In today's afternoon, the ship will dock at the port of Palermo Isole of the Navy with six bodies on board recovered from the seabed of the Sicilian Channel in international waters near the wreck of a boat that sank on August 5th on a depth of about 60 meters.

Following the sinking, on 5 August 2015, the Irish Navy ship Niamh he had recovered 373 castaways and 26 bodies subsequently landed in Palermo.

During the investigations, coordinated by the prosecutor of the Republic of Palermo, the Navy was asked to conduct the competition for the purpose of finding the wreck of the sunken vessel and any corpses.

The wreck of the vessel was identified on 5 December 2015 by the minesweeper Rimini, who conducted a first investigation on the wreck by a typical underwater vehicle Pluto, whose videophotographic filming was made available to the mandated prosecutor for the first assessments of the case. Subsequently, on 23 and 24 June last, with standard vehicles Pegaso e Sirio of the Diving Operations Group of the COMSUBIN (Submarine Commanders of the Navy), embarked on a ship Antaeus, a detailed underwater inspection was conducted on the vessel and the area surrounding it, which made it possible to ascertain the presence of 10 corpses, of which it was possible to recover 6 from the wreck, then transferred to Nave Isole, specially equipped with suitable accommodations for storing and transporting corpses.

Due to the poor condition of the hull, collapsed on itself, and therefore the impossibility of operating in safe conditions, the search for other bodies could not continue.
