Admiral Valter Girardelli is the new Chief of Staff of the Navy

The alternation ceremony between team admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi and team admiral Valter Girardelli has just ended at Palazzo Marina.

Anticipated by the deposition of a laurel wreath at the Altare della Patria and accompanied by the executions of the Navy Band, the changeover ceremony at the top of the Armed Force was held in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Senator Roberta Pinotti, Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano and the highest civil and military authorities. Also at the ceremony the Minister of the Interior, Mr Angelino Alfano.

A solemn ceremony, held in front of the lined up departments and culminating with the significant and symbolic raising of the command sign of Admiral Valter Girardelli, on the flagpole in the center of the majestic square, sign that will stand out for the next years.

The shift marks a milestone for the Armed Forces, which in the last three and a half years has experienced major changes. "I leave a more modern and integrated navy in civil society" - emphasized Admiral De Giorgi in his remarks (Discourse DeGiorgi.pdf).

After 45 years of service, Admiral De Giorgi passes witness to Admiral Girardelli, who in his settlement speech wanted to witness the commitment to leading the Navy.
