Green Fleet: Navy and US Navy prepare to write a small page of history

The appointment at sea between ships was presented this afternoon at Palazzo Marina in Rome Etna, supplying the Navy, the ships of the Carrier Strike Group Eisenhower and the destroyer Andrea Doria.

The 16 day will take place on first side supply of green fuel at sea: ship Etna on one side it will supply the US destroyer Mason, on the other ours Andrea Doria.

The activity, two years after the signing of the cooperation agreement between the Italian Navy and the US represents a field test of the results achieved in the research and development of alternative fuels for the reduction of polluting emissions.

At today's press conference were present the cv Andrea Pugina of the 7mo ships department and the cv Martino Baldari of the 4 ° logistics department of the Italian Navy, the capt. Marc Miguez of the US Navy Sixth Fleet and Eng. Giacomo Rispoli representing ENI.

During the meeting it was explained that "Green Fleet" does not only mean using biofuel but collects a set of procedures, systems and arrangements, such as LEDs for lighting, special paints for hulls, economic propulsion systems, the propeller cleaning, some already in place that, together, will reduce consumption and save hundreds of tons of fuel a year, as well as contributing to the achievement of the commitments assumed by Italy and the European Union in the international field on containment of emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases.

Green diesel is produced in the Eni biorefinery plants in Venice.
