A new intelligence brigade will be active in the next few hours in Vicenza to support operations in Africa and to counter the growing security threats brought by extremist groups. This is what the Pentagon is reporting.

The "207th Military Intelligence Brigade" was activated earlier this month at "Camp Ederle", command of the United States Army Africa, located in Vicenza. As part of the new realignment of intelligence departments, two companies of the 66th Brigade of Wiesbaden, Germany, will be inactivated, with the loss of 320 soldiers and 450 of their families. Another battalion belonging to the brigade, the 522nd, will be deployed in Wiesbaden. In Vicenza, however, 320 soldiers and 420 civilians will arrive.

The move is intended to provide tactical support for all of AFRICOM's operations on a continent destabilized by a number of terrorist groups: al-Shabab in Somalia and Boko Haram in Nigeria. Without forgetting, finally, the Libyan support point set up by the Stato islamico in Libya.
