A terrorist Christmas

21/12/14

When it comes to the end of the year, there is always an account of what happened and in particular some nations must also estimate how Christmas will end. It seems a bit strange, but in those countries where we live daily with Islamic terrorism, we must necessarily take into account the damage that could arise during Christian holidays.

Nigeria, which has always been religiously divided, is perhaps the nation most affected by this phenomenon that sometimes makes the permanence in a territory that is fascinating anyway.

Boko Haram, leaves no time for the federal government and its security agencies to fight terrorism, so much so that they also have strategic course changes, displacing the police.

In the last semester of this year we have seen Boko Haram also make use of kamikaze stuffed with trirolo, something never seen before since the birth of the "cult". Boko Haram, distinguishes itself from other terrorist groups also in the choice of the kamikaze: it requires only women to sacrifice themselves for the cause, as if to outline the little importance of women used as a mere instrument of destruction. Women abused and rendered animals, in the most contemptuous meaning of the term, women seized and cherished as inferior beings. This is the line indicated by the leader of Boko Haram.

Proof of this is that a few days ago, the terrorist group confiscated dozens of Christian girls from a village in the remote desert area of the northeast, killing 130 men and 23 army soldiers.

Christmas is approaching and, as always, intelligence reports are lacking in information and alerts that alert embassies and large foreign companies operating in Nigeria. And here is issued a dispatch to all expatriates in having particular foresight in their movements during their stay in Nigeria for the Christmas period. Too bad it is the usual "copy and paste" of little use that, punctually and like repeating a script already written, is disclosed.

Useless because it is not yet understood at the top of the various intelligence agencies operating in Africa, that Boko Haram acts according to its own criterion dictated only by the desire to fight the system, without time, and that they do not wait for festivities to take action. They do not need it, because they have shown that with their actions, on completely normal days, they have shown their power over the population and their military strength, working in total secrecy and by chance, succeeding with great success in all their actions of guerrilla warfare.

But one thing is never said: even the Christians have had their faults in these years of religious war, like the last attack on the new Emir of Kano a few months ago, who with a bomb killed 38 Muslims in the mosque of the emirate . Fortunately, the three expatriates of the security service of the Emir remained unharmed.

For our part, as expatriates, we live by the day avoiding the usual crowded places and moving only in the case of extreme necessity, perhaps holding an AK47 ready to use.

Those who can return home to spend family holidays and get away from the problems of forced cohabitation with terrorism, as if this problem did not exist. But some will spend Christmas in Africa awaiting the count of the dead of the massacres that will take place in the coming days. Massacres already announced with dead and wounded by Christians who have only the guilt of living in a difficult political environment. Yes politically, because Boko Haram is political terrorism and has acknowledged it when the announcement of the current (Christian) President Goodluck Jonhatan declared that he would be re-nominated for the third time to the presidency, interrupting once and for all the balance with Muslims who no longer had an Islamic president from afar, now, 2002.

Christmas is near and "I hope we can get it".
