Tension in Korea: Seoul asks the US to redeploy attack submarines, fighters and bombers

South Korea would have requested a strategic deployment from the United States. This is what the main Seoul media reported.

According to the agency Yonhap the South Koreans would have required the permanent redeployment of a nuclear-powered attack submarine, F-22 fighters and B-52 bombers. The new strategic deployment would have been requested in response to the alleged hydrogen bomb test carried out by North Korea a few hours ago. The data collected, as well as the seismic signature detected, categorically deny the possible detonation of an H bomb.

Washington and Seoul have a long history of economic and military cooperation. The United States has a force of 25.000 troops in South Korea. The Pentagon is reportedly evaluating the situation. Since last August, three B-2 bombers have been deployed on the island of Guam in scheduled rotation.

Seoul's requests, however, should be understood as a dutiful formal "response" to North Korea's provocations. The USA, in fact, has had at least two nuclear-powered attack submarines in the area for years. The presence of a “boomer” is considered superfluous because its effectiveness is not conditioned by its proximity to the Region. He could throw his own Trident, in fact, from thousands of miles away and with deadly precision. The US, on the other hand, could decide to strengthen the presence of the small F-22 fighters at the Andersen base and in South Korea. The bulk of the forces deployed by the US would concern the B-52 bombers.
