Sweden, hunt for the submarine

18/10/14

The Swedish defense forces are in a state of alarm due to the probable presence of a hostile submarine off Stockholm. The information was classified as reliable, and for this reason the Swedish navy alerted surface units and aircraft to hunting the intruder.

In the note released by the Defense, it is not specified to which nation the raid belongs, but it is possible that it could be a Russian boat, sailed from Kronstadt or Baltijsk. In this case it should be a very quiet Kilo class, suitable for Sigint and Elint missions.

It is also possible that it is one of the innovative non-nuclear submarines with AIP silent propulsion. This is the same type of engine already in use in the German U-212 submarines and in the U-214, whose power is entrusted to hydrogen cells, rather than to electric diesels.

This is proof that Russia is trying to recover the status of military power lost after the end of the Cold War.

Yet another test of strength to test the operational readiness of NATO countries.
