Greetings from Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

14/01/15

The Yemeni branch of Al-Qaeda has today claimed, through one of its main figures, the responsibility of the attack carried out last week against the authors of the Paris satirical newspaper. The attack was carried out for revenge against the cartoons on the prophet Muhammad, considered an insult to Islam.

Nasr al-Ansi, a prominent Al-Qaeda figure on the Arabian peninsula, in the eleven-minute video posted to the group's Twitter account, talks about murders like the "Holy Battle of Paris to avenge the Prophet's honor".

"We chose the objective, established the plan and financed the operation (a name is not indicated, but the entire organization is given.) The brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi, those who have physically carried out the attack against the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo , they are heroes ".

Nasr al-Ansi continues - "Glory to you. With this vengeance you have calmed our pain. Glory to you, brave men, who have lit the torch of glory by throwing the enemy into the darkness of defeat. of the nations of Satan (France), a country that shared all of America's crimes perpetrated against Muslims. ”This last passage refers to the French military offensive in Mali.

Al-Zawahri's orders respected

"We have implemented the orders of the leader of Al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahri who has called for attacks by Muslims in the West by whatever means available to them. It is only the beginning of a long trail of terror ".

The Paris march showed the weakness of European leaders

"Look at how they came together, supporting each other in pain, in an attempt to strengthen their weakness and recover from the wounds we brought them."

The video shows the logo of Al-Malahem Media, a media division of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula. Just the Yemeni branch, it is considered as the most dangerous among those affiliated to Al-Qaeda.

Although AQAP is committed internally against government forces and Shiite rebels, it continues to promote and carry out attacks abroad.

Rising in the 2009 from the merger between the Yemeni and Saudi branch of the terrorist group, AQAP is accused of a series of thwarted bomb attacks against American targets. AQAP is responsible for planning the failed bombing of the Detroit-bound airliner in the 2009 (Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab would have been instructed by Anwar al-Awlaki) and the attempt, a year later, to send bombs from the Gulf, hidden in the toner supply for printers in the United States.

The attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper is the first success for AQAP and for its double strategy of continuing the Jihad in Yemen to constitute the fighting force to strike abroad.

The brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi, reached Yemen, passing through Oman, in the 2011. According to some sources, in Yemen, they would have met Anwar al-Awlaki (terminated by a drone that same year) in the eastern province of Marib.

Anwar al-Awlaki: the Internet Bin Laden

Anwar al-Awlaki, one of the most charismatic figures of Al-Qaeda, continues to be the main source of inspiration for many terrorists. Influenced by the works of Sayyid Qutb, creator of anti-Western jihadist thought, Anwar al-Awlaki soon became the leading expert of the extremist fundamentalist line.

A highly skilled speaker, he wrote numerous essays that can be defined as the guide for Islamic extremists, a sort of bible of the lone wolf who consecrates himself to martyrdom.

He understood the fundamental importance of the internet as a tool to spread anti-western culture and recruit new cells, opening a blog, a Facebook page, a Youtube channel and becoming the first columnist of the Al-Qaeda column, Inspire (in his first article at -Awlaki invoked attacks against those who had slandered the prophet Muhammad and attacks against Western targets).

Contrary to what was assumed, Anwar al-Awlaki did not obtain the command of the organization in Yemen (which remains to Nasser al-Wuhayshi), confirming himself as one of the most authoritative figures of Al-Qaeda, a role also recognized by Bin Laden and perhaps indicated by this last as his possible successor.

The 30 of 2011 was eliminated by a CIA drone.
