Fake Syrian passports sold for $ 200. A new strategy that questions the filtering capacity of refugees from the Middle East fleeing to the West. In an 18-page report drawn up by the Department of the Homeland Security widespread in the United States, it places particular emphasis on a specific batch of passports issued since June 2014 in two regions under the control of the Islamic State: ez-Zour Deir and Raqqa. Passports that would be available on the burgeoning Syrian black market as well as on the Turkish one.

“The inability to verify information with the legitimate Syrian government and the exploitation of the former provincial and regional government infrastructures determine a difficult problem to solve. The Islamic State is using the printing presses stolen from the government to make passports and fake documents with covers of Russian origin. The documents are then sold for a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 400 dollars ".

According to US intelligence, 3800 counterfeit Syrian passports have already been marked. Other 10 thousand were intercepted by the FBI in Bulgaria on their way to Germany. The seized games, however, could represent only a tiny part of the false documents made by the 2014.

"In the absence of specific intelligence information we cannot identify the refugee as a member of ISIS. We have no intelligence on the ground, so the information we have about the refugee is based on what he says. So it means he could be a terrorist or a desperate person."

In the report there is a reference to war criminals, able to enter the United States after the end of the conflict with impunity.

“Before being captured they became American citizens: this is because there was a delay in obtaining information on what they had really accomplished. Terrorists, unlike war criminals, do not flee to hide but to carry out attacks ”.

The attacks in Paris, which took place on 13 November last, were carried out by terrorists who entered France with false Syrian passports. It should be remembered that the Visa Waiver Program it does not apply to Syria, as it is not included in the list of countries recognized by the United States. Through this visa process, therefore, an individual would be subject to screening procedures by the US intelligence databases. The problem, in this case, is that the information is also based on the international database made available by the respective countries. And the Syrian one may no longer be completely reliable and up-to-date.
