“There may have been a possible case of a cover-up. What is certain is that the terrorists of the Islamic State have all the means and resources to start the production of Sarin gas ”. This is what was said by Eren Erdem, member of the opposition of the Republican People's Party of Turkey (CHP) to the satellite channel Russia Today.
Sarin is a military chemical product, recently used in the 2013 in a devastating attack on Ghouta and in several other neighborhoods near the Syrian capital of Damascus. After those attacks, the Syrian leadership (under US pressure ready for an air raid), agreed to get rid of all the chemical weapons stocks held by an agreement signed with the UN.
But the Turkish politician has done more. On Tuesday, he showed the parliament a copy of the 2013 / 120 criminal case opened by the Attorney General of the City of Adana in southern Turkey. The investigation showed that a number of Turkish citizens participated in negotiations with the Islamic State for the supply of Sarin gas. Among the tests, there were also some intercepted telephone conversations.
"We have telephone records of this expedition which we know to have occurred despite the government's promised border controls. Although the Adana authorities have subsequently arrested 13 suspects, a week later the case was dismissed with the immediate release of the alleged terrorists along the Turkish-Syrian border ".
"Yet in the telephone records we can see the involvement of those arrested. All the details of the shipment emerge: from the materials to the weight of the doses sent. From the trucks used on the date of delivery. In spite of everything, the case was closed. That gas is now in Syria ".
A Russia Today, Erdem spoke of Ankara cover-up with alleged involvement of some senior government figures.
"From the file the involvement of these people with the national chemical industry of Turkey clearly emerges. They have no concern about crossing the border. For example, in the telephone records of Hayyam Kasap, the man claims to have transported on several occasions of sarin gas and that the structures are ready for mass production ".
Erdem argues that the West purposely blamed the Damascus government for the August 2013 attacks, using that incident to motivate military intervention in Syria.
"That file shows that the use of gas was not Assad, but the Islamic State that a few days earlier had received a supply from Sarin from Turkey. And the West has always known this as well as knowing that all the basic materials for the production of chemical weapons have been sold by some European countries of the US-led coalition ".
