The Wilayat Sayna group, an affiliate of the Islamic State on the Sinai peninsula in Egypt, aims to increase its prestige by claiming to have shot down the 9268 flight, the 31 last October. As a result, it is feared that it may receive further support from the movement in Iraq and Syria.
In the photo, branched out on the social media channels of the movement and currently analyzed by the Russian secret services, the fundamentalist group ironizes about the excellent weather conditions and the ability to bring down Russian airliners.
The authorship of the attack is still to be confirmed. For the Israelis there is no doubt: a bomb was placed on the Russian airliner. This would demonstrate a new operational capacity of the fundamentalist group, seeking prestige within the Islamic state and allowing it to obtain more weapons from smuggling with Libya. According to Israel, the Wilayat Sayna group numbers around 1.000 members, most of them local Bedouins.
