The "Emad" system entered service and has already been deployed with the operational departments. This is what the general said Guard corps of the Islamic revolution Hossein Salamis.

The last test dates back to 11 October, when Iran successfully launched a new ballistic missile called "Emad". Believed to be a variant of the Shahab-3 (based on the North Korean Nodong), it features a new advanced guidance and control system which would make it the first ballistic missile precision at intermediate range of Iran.

Precisely on the new missile, the defense ministry comment was clear: "To strengthen our defense, we must not ask anyone's permission and the new 'Emad' is a clear example of our developing programs."

Iranian officials have always stressed that "the defense of the country cannot be influenced by the nuclear agreement signed with the world powers the 14 last July with the resolution of the United Nations Security Council".

The Iranians have recently claimed to "be able to build missiles with a range of 2000 km with a zero margin of error".

Very little is known about the Emad system. It should be a medium-range liquid fuel ballistic missile with a range of 1700 kilometers. The most significant figure, if it were really so, concerns the new return system equipped, according to the Iranians, with advanced controls which would guarantee greater precision. Its liquid propellant, however, requires a refueling before launch: a long, dangerous process that leaves it vulnerable to enemies. His GPS satellite guide, on the other hand, is based on the American network. The latter, in the event of an attack, could be obscured by the Pentagon. Therefore, Iran could probably be based on the Russian GLONASS.

Finally, the conventional warhead remains considerable, even if such a weapon has very little sense if it is not equipped with a nuclear warhead.
