Green light for the system Arrow Weapon System, developed by the United States and Israel, for its first interception of a carrier. The AWS has been designed to detect, identify, track, discriminate and eliminate a lens that travels rapidly through space.

The test, conducted on the Mediterranean Sea, paves the way towards the low initial production rate of the exo-atmospheric interceptor developed by the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and supported by its American partner, Boeing.

The test took place this morning, when a Silver Sparrow, a target missile that simulates Iran's ballistic threats, was launched at the 08: 12 on the Mediterranean Sea along with two other false traces. From the Palmachim base, the Israelis launched the Arrow-3 which at 8: 17, after identifying the real threat hit the target.

Commented by the Israel Missile Defense Organization "The Arrow system in operational configuration has detected and selected the right target. The exo-atmospheric interceptor has destroyed the correct target with great precision in the depth of space".

After a series of failures, the Arrow-3 program resumes its development. Flying nearly twice as much as the Arrow-2, the 3 version of the system, half the weight of the previous carrier, is designed to identify Iranian ballistic missiles.

According to the Pentagon, compared to the previous system the Arrow-3 "will increase by four times the ability to destroy advanced threats". The joint program will resume next year with a new test.
