Leonardo-Finmeccanica is at the forefront of the implementation of the NATO system Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) which is presented for the first time to the Heads of State and to the authorities during the NATO Summit in Warsaw, the 8 and the 9 in July.

The NATO AGS system, whose operation will be illustrated to the delegations participating in the NATO summit, and which sees Northrop Grumman as prime contractor, is one of the most advanced solutions defined by the Atlantic Alliance to make available to the member countries the most advanced technologies for surveillance and security of citizens and territories.

Leonardo brings to the program a decisive contribution in the development and supply of ground stations for the operations center, of two transportable systems, of communication equipment for the transmission of data and images between the remotely piloted aircraft and the terrestrial and support segment to the mission. These activities, the heart of the Alliance's surveillance system, are carried out at the Turin Caselle plant, in collaboration with other Leonardo sites in Italy, involving around 200 employees. The AGS NATO system, which includes remotely piloted aircraft, land-based and mission support apparatuses, aims to monitor the territories, ensure the protection of civilian populations and ground troops, strengthen border control, as well as improve crisis management and humanitarian aid in emergency situations.

The system will be deployed at the main Sigonella base in Sicily and will be operational between the 2017 and the 2018.
