After a selection process that included preliminary studies, which were then transformed into a competition open to different engine manufacturers, Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi selected the Williams International FJ44-4M to power the new M-345 HET (High Efficiency Trainer).

The FJ44-4M is the fully aerobatic version of the FJ44-4A engine and belongs to the low-consumption 1.600kg thrust class.

The two companies have already started joint ventures to finalize the collaboration framework that will bring the engine into the aircraft over the next two years.

The M-345 HET represents Alenia Aermacchi's most recent and convenient solution for basic / advanced training of military pilots, thanks to the level of performance compared to low acquisition and operating costs.

In June 2013 Alenia Aermacchi and the Secretary General of Defense / DNA (National Armaments Directorate) of the Italian Ministry of Defense signed an agreement to jointly define the operational requirements and collaborate in the development of the new basic / advanced trainer conceived on the wealth of experience of the S -211 / M-311.

The aircraft has limit load factors between + 7 / -3,5 g

Development is underway and entry into service is scheduled for the end of the 2017.
