Leonardo presents for the first time to the public the OTO Marlin 40, the latest addition to the family of naval defense systems, among the main innovations at the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX) which opened yesterday in Qatar .
The OTO Marlin 40 naval tower responds to the needs of modern marines to use in patrolling boats that meet the speed and maneuverability requirements and, at the same time, have on board the best existing technologies in terms of performance.
With a dry weight of only 2.100 kg (in the version combined with the Combat Management System / Fire Control System), the possibility of using programmable ammunition, great maneuverability (can move at 120 degrees per second thanks to extremely powerful and precise servosystems) , the Marlin 40 offers the best level of performance in the most difficult operating scenarios, such as anti-missile, anti-aircraft and ship-based defense. The turret is completely digital and allows multiple configurations: it can be subservient to the ship's Combat Management System or operate in autonomous control through independent optics and its own ballistic computer. In both cases, the system has compact dimensions and allows a non-invasive installation, not requiring dedicated spaces under the bridge deck.
The excellent performance, flexibility and lightness of Marlin 40 make it the most suitable solution both as a main and secondary defense system, providing a valuable support to protect the ship from any maneuverable threat, in both anti-aircraft defense scenarios and anti-surface.
With a production started in this area in the 1950, Leonardo is the largest supplier of naval towers from 40mm globally, with over 850 systems in service for thirty Marine Navies worldwide.
