The navigation and maritime support center built by Leonardo was inaugurated today in Izmir, Turkey. Present at the ceremony, Binali YILDIRIM, speaker of the Turkish National Assembly and M. Cahit TURHAN, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. The system will allow to monitor the maritime traffic of the area.

The solution consists of two subsystems: the Regional Vessel Traffic Services System (RVTSS) which monitors the gulfs of Izmit, Izmir and Mersin, characterized by an intense traffic of goods and people; the Vessel Traffic Management Center (VTMC) installed in Ankara, thanks to which it is possible to have an integrated and complete picture of the traffic at sea. The first Izmit site was officially opened in November 2016.

The maritime traffic control system (Vessel Traffic Management System - VTMS) by Leonardo is the most technologically advanced solution available on the market today. It guarantees the safety of the coasts and maritime borders of large geographical areas and the monitoring of the maritime environment and supports the rescue and research operations at sea. The VTMS is available in fixed and mobile versions and is able to ensure the coverage and management of large areas, such as the Mediterranean basin, which, with over 7000 kilometers of monitored costs, is the largest application of the system.
