Leonardo announced today that Specialist Aviation Services (SAS) has won a UK racing competition for the delivery of an AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. The service delivery contract will last for ten years, with startup activities in 2019. AW169 will replace an MD902 Explorer and will be based at Cornwall Airport Newquay.
The new helicopter will provide greater safety and space in the cab, better performance and range of action, and will be customized with a medical extension made available by SAS, which simplifies handling and access to the patient by medical staff.
The Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust emphasized its enthusiasm for the benefits AW169 will bring to patients and crew in the future in carrying out their duties.
SNS Director General Henk Schaeken said: "I'm sure AW169 will be the best hoard for this customer for many years to come."
Specialist Aviation Services also operates in the UK as a service and maintenance center for AW169 providing a wide range of services for customers of this model.
