Leonardo announced today that the Queensland State Government in Australia has ordered two additional Agustawestland AW139 helicopters, scheduled for service in December 2018, for rescue tasks on land and on the sea. The AW139 will replace two obsolete other types of helicopters under the general fleet upgrade program, which also reduces maintenance costs.

The AW139, the world's leading manufacturer of performance, performance and cabin space, has been selected by the Queensland Government for its ability to fully meet customer requirements. The new helicopters will be added to the three AW139s already used by the same operator, further strengthening the state's rescue capabilities, and also benefiting from efficiency in support, maintenance and training.

The AW139 is used by Queensland Government Air (QGAir), a division of the State Public Safety Agency, based in Townsville. Helicopters will mainly carry out their missions throughout the Queensland's northern region, but will also be subject to periodic rotation to the southern areas in order to ensure the best territorial coverage in support of the entire population.

With this order, the presence of Leonardo on the Australian market continues to grow, following 120 helicopters of various types ordered to date in the country for civil, utility and military tasks. In recent years, AW139 has proven to be the most successful helicopter in Australia for hoarding with 30 units already in service at several customers.
