Leonardo-Finmeccanica and Nanyang University for High Technology in Singapore (Nanyang Technological University - NTU Singapore) have signed a collaboration agreement today in Rome. The agreement initiates a five-year cooperation in the field of innovative composite materials and helicopter aerodynamics.

The agreement follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Singapore in February and aims to contribute to technological progress in the aerospace field through the sharing of talents and know-how, promoting scientific research and developing industrial and engineering skills. This collaboration will strengthen Leonardo-Finmeccanica's leadership in the most advanced helicopter technologies and its research capacity, and will allow NTU teachers and students to access cutting-edge skills and knowledge in this sector.

The collaboration will also explore further technological opportunities in the helicopter field, a sector subject to rapid changes due to advances in composite materials, reduction of hydraulic and dynamic components and increased efficiency in industrial processes. The joint projects will include the search for innovative methods for the construction of cutting-edge LeonardoFinmeccanica products through the use of new composite materials, characterized by greater lightness and strength. The collaboration will also focus on aerodynamic modeling, which can guarantee a general improvement in flight performance.

Mauro Moretti, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo-Finmeccanica said: "This agreement represents an extraordinary opportunity for Leonardo-Finmeccanica to expand the scope of its activities in Singapore, a strategic country in which we are committed to strengthening our long-term cooperation period, not only in the helicopter field but also in other sectors Leonardo-Finmeccanica invests 11% of its revenues in Research and Development every year and we are pleased to have the opportunity to start a collaboration with NTU that will make a further contribution to the Leonardo-Finmeccanica's commitment to advanced research projects and will strengthen the importance of NTU as Singapore's main center for aerospace research. "

Professor Lam Khin Yong, Chief of Staff and Vice President for Research, said "The collaborations that NTU has initiated with leading industry players such as Leonardo-Finmeccanica are crucial to successfully translating university research into truly usable technological solutions commercial products. Our Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering will work with Leonardo-Finmeccanica engineers to research and develop new aerodynamic and production technologies that can be used for helicopters and next-generation aircraft.
