Telespazio Argentina, a subsidiary of Telespazio - a joint venture between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%) - has won an international tender in Costa Rica to complete the construction of the urban and rural land registry of the entire territory of the Central American country.

With this contract, which has a value of 20 million dollars and a duration of four years, Telespazio Argentina becomes the leader in Latin America in this market segment.

In detail, the contract provides for the supply of cadastral services on 50% of the territory of the Central American republic. The activities, which will be carried out on a million parcels, i.e. the portions of land, will begin in July 2020 and provide, with the support of cartographic and satellite data, the collection and crossing of cadastral and notary data, field checks, dissemination campaigns and the generation of digital cadastral maps with the associated database.

The National Register of the Republic of Costa Rica had so far produced the cadastral map of 50% of the country's districts with the decisive contribution of Telespazio Argentina for 30% of the territory.

The use of satellite technology brings numerous benefits to protect the territory and citizens, from monitoring critical infrastructures and cultural heritage to that of the environment (deforestation or oil spills from platforms). Not only that, satellite data also offer valuable information to support precision agriculture and the management of emergencies such as earthquakes, floods or fires. Even through applications of this type, developed thanks to the collection and analysis of satellite data carried out by Telespazio, Leonardo contributes to the sustainable development of the territory.
