Minister Giannini visits Telespazio

The Minister of Education, University and Research Stefania Giannini yesterday visited the Telespazio company in Rome, a joint venture between Finmeccanica (67%) and Thales (33%), one of the world's leading operators in the space services sector.

Finmeccanica's president, Gianni De Gennaro, the managing director and general manager of Finmeccanica, Mauro Moretti, Telespazio's managing director, Luigi Pasquali, welcomed the minister. The meeting was attended by the president of the Italian Space Agency, Roberto Battiston, the president of e-GEOS, Nazzareno Mandolesi, and the president and CEO of Thales Alenia Space Italia, Elisio Giacomo Prette.

Minister Giannini was shown the profile and industrial activities of Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space (67% Thales and 33% Finmeccanica), the other component of the Space Alliance made up of Finmeccanica and Thales. Telespazio operates in the field of space services and systems, Thales Alenia Space is active in the development of satellite systems and space infrastructures.

In particular, the contribution of the industry to large space programs such as COSMOSkyMed and Copernicus for Earth observation, EGNOS and Galileo for satellite navigation, SICRAL and ATHENA-FIDUS for military and institutional satellite communications was presented.

The visit continued at the headquarters of e-GEOS, a company set up by Telespazio (80%) and the Italian Space Agency (20%), where some of the application services developed were presented to the minister in the context of earth observation. with data provided by the Italian COSMOSkyMed radar satellite constellation, one of the most innovative programs in the world for monitoring our planet, funded by MIUR, ASI and the Ministry of Defense.
