The largest naval contract in the history of Australia, under the Collins-class submarine replacement project, was signed a few hours ago for a total value of 38,5 billion dollars. The Australian government has commissioned the French DCNS a new fleet of twelve submarines, replacing the current class Collins.

Announcing the commission, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull called the new fleet the most modern in the world. Diesel-electric propelled boats class Barracuda Shortfin, will be built at the ASC site in Adelaide with a work impact of 2800 units.

Il National Security Committee will withdraw the six class submarines Collins starting from the 2025. The Australian submarines will be ninety meters long and will be based on the class design Barracuda French nuclear-powered aircraft.

La Barracuda Shortfin will have a displacement of 4500 tons and will remain in service until 2060.

The French have therefore overcome the competition of Japan that, for the Collins-class submarine replacement project, they had advanced their class Soryu.
