Cooperation agreement between Fincantieri and the Indian shipyard in Cochin

Fincantieri, one of the first shipbuilding groups in the world, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the first Indian shipbuilder.

With this agreement, Fincantieri strengthens its presence in the country, giving further impetus to the long-term relationship with the government group CSL, which has plants on both the west and east Indian coasts.

Fincantieri, in fact, has been following the Indian Navy fleet renewal and expansion program for some time, considering that market strategic. In the past the group has stipulated with CSL, to which the Indian Navy has entrusted the construction of the aircraft carrier “Vikrant”, contracts for the design and integration of the unit's engine apparatus, and for the supply of complementary services. Subsequently, Fincantieri delivered to the Indian Navy "Deepak" and "Shakti", two team supply ships ("fleet tanker"), in addition to having built "Sagar Nidhi", an oceanographic vessel for the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT).

The agreement signed today establishes the principles for collaboration in numerous areas:

  • design, procurement and construction of new units on site naval for the Indian Defense market;

  • on-site production and marketing of mechanical products (such as propellers, shaft lines, stabilization systems, wheelhouse, thrusters and azimuth);

  • naval automation;

  • ship repairs;

  • Indian staff training and consultancy of Fincantieri in the design or construction or modernization processes of the yard.

The MoU will be followed by a series of detailed agreements, which will describe from time to time the respective roles and purpose of supply, from which advantages may derive for multiple areas of the Fincantieri group, starting with the Military Ships Division and that of Systems and Components, but also for Seastema, Vard Marine and Fincantieri India.
