From midnight on Friday 12 June, the command of the Toscana grouping as part of the “Strade Sicure” operation passed under the responsibility of the Savoy Cavalry regiment (3rd) under the leadership of Colonel Ermanno Lustrino and based in the city of Grosseto.
Since 18 December last year, the 187th Folgore Paratroopers Regiment, under the command of Colonel Nicola Mandolesi, has directed the operations in support of the Police in the Tuscan territory, deploying about 240 soldiers in the metropolitan areas of Florence, Pisa and Livorno, ensuring the supervision of sensitive targets with patrol, reconnaissance and control tasks.
In the current emergency situation determined by COVID-19, the soldiers employed in the area have adopted all the health provisions provided for by the governmental decrees on social relations in order to safeguard their own and others' safety.
The paratroopers of the 187 ° "Nembo" regiment based in Pistoia, of the Command Department of the Parachute Brigade, contributed to the operational effort of the Toscana Group, based on the 183th "Folgore" regiment with its operations room deployed at the Vannucci Barracks in Livorno. “Folgore”, of the Special Operational Forces Command, of the 9th Parachute Raiders Regiment and of the 185th Objective Acquisition Group, as well as of the 7th AVES "Vega" regiment and a platoon of the Italian Air Force.
