In recent days, two teams each made up of a section commander and three officers attending the 199th "Dare" course of the Army Training Command and Application School of Turin, took part in the 20th competition on the International Humanitarian Law, reserved for military training institutes.

The event, called by the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) of Sanremo, saw the participation of young second lieutenants, together with colleagues from the most prestigious Military Academies around the world, including West Point, Sandhurst, Saint-Cyr, in addition to the equivalent institutes of Georgia, Norway, the Netherlands and Switzerland, for a total of 65 students divided into teams and in turn brought together in multinational mixed teams, which represented imaginary countries involved in an escalation of international military operations.

The visitors, evaluated by international judges, provided advice to a "Joint Operations Commander" (JOC), dealing with the reality of complex geopolitical and social situations (peacekeeping, containment of war violence, humanitarian assistance, refugee protection, interdiction of torture measures, child protection and international relief actions), and at the same time, conducting the planned military operation, in accordance with the tactical support and in the light of the constraints dictated by International Humanitarian Law.

The third place won by the mixed team of second lieutenant Eugenio Pedron is significant.

“Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law is essential for future Army Commanders, who must continually adapt effectively to an increasingly heterogeneous global context. The military engaged in a mission is required to have extensive training, also extended to the field of political, economic, social and legal sciences ". So commented the Major General Mauro D'Ubaldi, commander for the training and Application School of the Army.
