"Operation Cohort": Libyan military training concluded

On the 20 June 2014 day, the 1 training course for Libyan security forces was concluded in Persano with a ceremony held in the presence of the Chief of Defense Staff Admiral Luigi Binelli Mantelli and the Libyan Gen. . Abdulsalam Jadallah Alobeidi.

The ceremony, held in the Capone barracks, saw the presence, among other things, of the commander of the command for training, specialization and doctrine of the army, general of the corps Massimo De Maggio and followed the final exercise under the direction of the personnel of the 8 regiment of the Bersaglieri of the Garibaldi brigade, held in the days before at the district of Persano in the presence of a delegation of the Libyan government, in which the Libyan military simulated a combat operation in a town ( purposely reconstructed on the basis of photographic images depicting a suburban village on the outskirts of Tripoli) hypothetically occupied by a group of terrorists.

The exercise marked the culmination of the training and had the aim of getting the Libyan unit to acquire the specific skills to operate at the level of light infantry company with the ability to control and secure the territory.

During the speech given by the chief of staff of the defense, all the efforts made by the Italian army were underlined, and the commander of the 8 ° Bersaglieri regiment and the commander of the 80 ° regiment training volunteer "ROMA" for the gratifying results obtained.
