Soldiers thwart a robbery attempt against a European parliamentarian

This afternoon, an army military patrol employed in the "Safe Roads" operation forced two individuals who had threatened the MEP with a gun to escape. Aldo Patriciello and his driver.

The three soldiers, active in the "Cavalleggeri Guide" regiment and employed in the "Strade Sicure" operation at the "Piazza del Gesù" site in Naples, noticed two individuals with their faces covered, riding a scooter, standing next to car. At a time when the two criminals have pointed a gun at the driver's window, the soldiers intervened and ordered the "ALT"; in taking flight the criminals have dropped the weapon on the ground. On the spot the State Police intervened, alerted by military personnel, to carry out the necessary surveys.

There are about 4000 Army men and women engaged in the "Safe Roads" operation on the national territory that guarantee daily security, in the main Italian cities, from Chiomonte to Lampedusa, in competition with the police, through the surveillance of sensitive targets and the patrolling of metropolitan areas.

Since the beginning of the "Safe Roads" operation (August 2008), around 14 thousand arrests have been made, almost 2 controlled millions of people and one million cars and vehicles, seized 11 thousand vehicles, 600 weapons and 2.100 pounds of drugs.
