The Army bomb squad, under the 8th "Folgore" parachute sapper engineer regiment of Legnago (VR), intervened in the locality of Cismon del Grappa, in the municipality of Valbrenta (VI), for the neutralization of a war remnant dating back to the first world conflict.

The bomb, a 305 mm artillery grenade, was found during excavation work to rebuild the municipal water network and was placed in safe conditions.

As a premise of the reclamation operations and to guarantee safety, the Army operators have created a containment structure with the purpose of mitigating the effects of a possible accidental explosion; which, specifically designed to protect the neighboring buildings and the infrastructures falling within the area declared "at risk", has made it possible to considerably reduce the evacuation radius from the place of discovery.

The delicate reclamation operations, coordinated by the Prefecture of Vicenza and the Northern Operational Forces command, began following the completion of the evacuation procedures which involved around 300 citizens residing within the evacuation area. To complete the security measures, in addition to the prohibition of overflights over the entire area of operation, steps were taken to close road traffic on the SS 47 "Valsugana", SS 50 bis and SP 73, and to interdict the Bassano del Grappa – Trento.
