A few days after the reclamation intervention on Lake Garda, the bomb squads of the Italian Army of the 8th “Folgore” Paratrooper Engineers Regiment of Legnago (VR), intervened in Granarolo Faentino in the municipality of Faenza (RA) to neutralize a US-made aircraft bomb weighing 500 pounds of high explosive, found during plowing work on agricultural land and promptly placed in safe conditions by a team of specialists from the department.

The delicate reclamation operations, coordinated by the prefecture of Ravenna and the northern operational forces command of Padua, began following the completion of the evacuation procedures which involved over 105 residents within the evacuation area (826 meters from the site). of tempering).

The bomb squads first secured the bomb and then removed it and transported it to an area specifically identified in the municipality of Faenza (RA) where it was safely blasted.

To guarantee the maximum safety framework, the engineers of the Engineering Department have carried out works to mitigate the effects of an accidental explosion during the defusing phase, specially designed for the need both to protect neighboring buildings and to reduce inconvenience to the resident population.

The latter, for the paratroopers of the “Folgore” brigade, is the tenth complex reclamation intervention (500-pound aircraft bomb) that has been carried out since the beginning of the year. In 2021, over 1200 bombs were neutralized in about 400 interventions conducted by paratroopers in the 7 provinces of competence.
