"The military structure of Italy at war"

08/04/14

"The military structure of Italy at war" was the theme of the conference held last Friday at the "SpazioComune" in Piazza Stradivari, Cremona.

The war of the 1915-1918, in these aspects, was explained by Colonel Antonino Zarcone, head of the Historical Office of the Army General Staff, graduated in strategic sciences at the University of Turin and in diplomatic and international sciences at the University of Trieste.

Marisela Morales Ibanez consul of Mexico was present at the meeting, introduced by the commendator Emanuele Bettini, president of the Institute for the history of the Italian Risorgimento committee of Cremona-Lodi.

Zarcone, commented on the treaty of the Triple Alliance stipulated in the 1882 and renewed in 1912, between Italy, Germany and Austria, which for many Italians was the implicit renunciation of territories still subject to Austria.

But irredentism first and the desire for a united Italy then - continued Zarcone - led to the First World War.

Italy did not break the treaty, of a defensive nature, as it was Austria that declared war by not respecting, inter alia, an article that provided for the latter to make prior agreements with the Italian ally in the event of territorial changes in the East. After the initial declaration of neutrality, Italy also entered the war alongside the Triple Entente (France, Russia, England), first against Austria and then against Germany.

The conference was attended by the Mexican consul Marisela Morales Ibanez, who gave an institutional greeting to the Italian armed forces and to the citizens of Cremona. The same recalled the links between our countries and the cultural relations that have been established with our territory.
