RC-WEST's CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear) team, in collaboration with the KSF CBRN team and with the presence of MESP (Ministry of Environment an Spatial Planning), AEM (Agency of Emergency Management) and KARPNS (Kosovo Agency Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety) carried out a scheduled inspection today at “Kosova B”, one of the two power plants in Kosovo that supplies 70-80% of the nation's electricity needs.

The team of the 7th CBRN "Cremona" defense regiment, based in Camp Villaggio Italia in Belo Polje, annually carries out twenty-six scheduled TIM (Toxic Industrial Material) inspections during which, through instrumental analysis, it detects, identifies and monitors the chemicals present within industries and controls their storage (making sure they comply with safety regulations), correct sealing and labeling.

The team in question also identifies, identifies and measures the gamma dose intensity of the sources present in industrial sites, checking that safety regulations are respected in this sector as well.

Toxic industrial materials (TIM) are industrial chemicals produced, stored, transported and used all over the world: they are generally toxic or radioactive substances in solid, liquid, aerosolized form, whose exposure can derive from accidental releases, leaks, explosions, intentional releases, attacks near stored chemicals or improvised explosive devices (IEDs) release at industrial production facilities, water treatment plants, waste storage facilities, research and development laboratories, as well as from releases resulting from disasters natural.
