The "Into Darkness 2016" exercise is taking place in the training areas of the province of Viterbo, conducted by the 3rd Helicopter Regiment for Special Operations (REOS) "Aldebaran".
The activity, to which the July 4 attended the Army Chief of Staff, army corps general Giovan Battista Borrini, was organized and conducted in the framework of the preparation of the REOS for the requirement "Joint Rapid Responce Force "(JRRF), a pool of capacities / interforce structures with high and very high operational readiness to draw on to ensure a rapid response to national and multinational needs.
In particular, the exercise also included the conduct of specific activities for the qualification Special Operators (OS) of REOS crews. The training saw the unit engaged in a supposedly potentially hostile scenario.
"Into Darkness 2016" made it possible to carry out simulated missions to support the Special Forces with the use of all the aircraft supplied to the regiment and the participation of the 185º Reconnaissance Objective Acquisition Regiment.
The REOS crews have carried out specific activities, such as Hely Vehicle Interdiction, tactical navigation, boat release and personnel in Lake Bolsena with the techniques and procedures typical of REOS.
Finally, with the collaboration of an AB412 helicopter of the Fire Brigade of the Pratica di Mare base, a recovery activity of a crew from the water by means of a rescue winch was simulated.
In summary, the "Into Darkness 2016" exercise has allowed us to reproduce a training context adhering to the possible scenarios of use of the 3 ° "Aldebaran" and to draw valuable indications for maintaining and developing operational capabilities in view of future uses.
