At the request of the Socio-Territorial Health Authority of Pavia through the Prefecture, groups of disinfectants from the "Taurinense" alpine brigade have launched an important sanitation program in these days that will see them operate in the coming days in favor of the Healthcare Residences of the province of Pavia.

This is a plan of interventions that follows the intense commitment that saw the disinfecting nuclei operate last month at about sixty structures in Piedmont and which provides for the sanitation of about 2.000 beds in twenty of the Pavia Healthcare Residences, an activity for which the Alpine troops of the "Taurinense" are adequately specialized and trained, thanks also to the experience gained in the numerous activities conducted in various foreign Operating Theaters.

The protocols for preventive disinfection used by military personnel have two distinct phases. In the first phase, the rooms are cleaned by using quaternary ammonium salts which, in addition to cleaning and removing dirt from the treated surfaces, allows the activation of the substances used subsequently. The second phase consists of disinfection with sodium hypochlorite, i.e. bleach, with the aim of removing and killing biological agents with a biocidal function. During these phases, specialists operate under the technical supervision of a veterinary medical officer responsible for the activity.

The sanitization activities fall within the ambit of the great operational and logistical effort that the Armed Forces, at the disposal of the Minister of Defense, Hon. Lorenzo Guerini, immediately addressed to support the "Country" system in the management of the health emergency. In deference to this support, the "Taurinense" alpine brigade is also involved in other sectors. Following the request of the prefectural authorities of Turin, Novara and Cuneo, the military structures were reshaped as part of the "Safe Roads" operation, in order to also contribute to the control of compliance with the decrees of the President of the Council of Ministers, to law enforcement support.

In addition, within a few hours of the start of the emergency, the brigade's military health personnel were employed in various Piedmontese and Lombard hospitals, also carrying out basic assistance in the areas that remained free of medical doctors. Again in support of the National Health System, there have been numerous transfers of patients between different hospital structures, using ambulances and military health personnel, as well as multiple transport of health and hospital equipment in favor of the health area created at the Officine Grandi Repairs in Turin.

Finally, logistic units of the brigade have repeatedly been commissioned to collect numerous tons of sanitary material and personal protective equipment at the airport areas of Turin and Milan in order to distribute them as quickly as possible to the various regional offices of the Civil Protection in Piedmont, Liguria, Valle Aosta and Lombardy.
